Digital Citizenship

In this class i have learn a lot about social media and how to use it to you advantage. I have learned about digital citizenship which before this class, i had no idea was. I have learned about creative commons and what you can use it for. The project was a success and i now know how to use digital citizenship to my advantage
I like this classes learning environment much more than another class because its such a high tech and modern classroom, compared to the lecturing class room in most of my other classes. This in my only class that i throughly enjoy.

A techless school

Their learning environment is more old school compared to Burlington High School. Our learning environment is more modernized and more technological. I personally like the environment at Burlington better because you are keeping up with the technology and you aren't clueless on a computer. A blended approach would be ideal. It would have the best of both worlds. It would have technology but it would also have a genuine old school approach. The lack of technology would be less distracting because there would be less things to distract us when we are learning. The  iPads are good at helping us in school but they also distract us too.

Using Social Media for the wrong reasons.

http://www.socialsmallbiz.com/2010/12/09/are-we-doing-social-media-for-the-wrong-reasons/

This article states that marketers didn't really use the internet in the correct way. They were confused by it. Half of businesses use social media. The businesses that used social media did it  so they didn't get left behind. Businesses don't use the full benefits of social media. I think if companies took full advantage of the internet they could expand.

BackChannel

I thought the Backchannel was good because you got to see other peoples ideas and questions. The Backchannel was also distracting because you wanted to read everyones point of views but you also wanted to watch the video so i feel like I missed important parts of the video.

Ipads in school

I read an article on the New York Times website. In a school in Long Island they only have 47 ipads.  And the network. We have 1,000 and the net work is really slow. With only 47 the network would be much faster. The resources for students would be limited. Since every student and teacher has one each student can look up instead of waiting for an open Ipad so they can research. Since every student does have an ipad it is easier for them to get off task. With only 47 a student doesn't have time for games because other need one of the few.

Filter Bubbles

"It will be very hard for people very hard for people to watch or consume something that has not in some sense been tailored for them" - Eric Schmidt, Google

This quote means that if websites are limiting our searches because of what links we clicked on and what videos and images we looked at we can't really consume any information or learn other topics. Having Google and Yahoo News altered can help so you do not have to go searching for topics we like because they would be the top searches. When you order something on Amazon.com the next time you log on it shows you what other buyers who bought the same thing you did bought and what else you might be interested in based off of your past purchases.

"TargetX CRM" lets Colleges look on wall and your profile.

Colleges can now look at your Facebook statuses and can look at your tweets using a new tool called "TargetX CRM" I think its not really fair to the college students because their social life and what they put on Facebook could be different from their academic life. Its also a good idea because colleges can see how the student interacts with other people.
